As part of its Transition Fund, the setec Foundation has begun a partnership with the Collège Notre Dame de Nazareth in Beirut. This project, co-opted by Diala Abdo, an employee of the setec énergie environnement subsidiary, was a response to the Foundation’s desire to support a project of general interest in Lebanon, against a backdrop of national crisis.
The national context
The energy production and humanitarian situation in Lebanon requires alternative ways of generating electricity to the national grid. As the grid only operates intermittently for a few hours a day, it does not allow for stable activity, particularly in the country’s schools. This problem, raised by Diala Abdo, brings us face to face with the difficulties of maintaining quality education, accessible to all, in the context of Lebanon’s crisis.
The project
This is why the Foundation was asked to finance the installation of solar panels on the roofs of the school’s buildings, to provide a stable supply of electricity and ensure the school’s energy transition. Due to energy shortages within the country, private individuals generally equip themselves with generators whose efficiency depends on the price of the fossil fuels needed to run them and on the availability of energy. By replacing these generators with solar panels, the college ensures both ecological transition and economic stability.
