The end of April was marked by an event organized by the Fondation de France in Morocco, as part of Solidarité Maroc. This appeal for donations was launched in September 2023 following the magnitude 7 earthquake that hit the country, to help the thousands of families affected.

The setec Foundation mobilized its Emergency Fund to participate in this call for solidarity, and was invited to visit various projects implemented by local structures to help the population.

Rabab Amajjout and Youssef Zellagi (setec Maroc) represented the setec Foundation on these visits, which took place between April 28 and May 2, 2024.

Over the 3-day event, they were able to discover the following initiatives in the Al-Haouz region:

  • Toutes à l’École” project: the aim of this project is to offer girls aged between 10 and 18 accommodation in student houses, with appropriate academic support. Beneficiaries are selected through a competitive admission process, ensuring that fifty girls can benefit from this opportunity and environment that encourages excellence;
  • Agri NORSYS” project: the Tifaouine agricultural cooperative promotes the development of ecological farming activities and suffered significant losses as a result of the earthquake. The project includes an ecological circuit through the plots of land and aims to provide support for populations in precarious situations, while at the same time setting up multi-actor projects for the development of areas severely impacted by the earthquake.
  • AL JISR” project: this project consists of installing and fitting out 9 modular structures to replace destroyed classrooms in the province of Chichaoua. The children also benefit from post-traumatic psychological support and various educational activities, notably the library bus
  • TERRAPSY” project: this project provides emergency psychological assistance to earthquake victims in the province of Al Haouz, particularly women and children.
  • INSAF” project: in addition to emergency aid (tents, food products), this project offers scholarships to families to support girls’ schooling.

The visits were attended by representatives of various organizations, including the Fondation de France and its Morocco Committee, as well as several sheltered foundations such as the Maia Baudelaire Foundation, the Béatrice Schönberg Foundation and the Kerguelen Foundation.

Rabab and Youssef gave their account of these visits:

“Our visit to the projects supported by the Fondation de France in Al Haouz was an exceptional experience. The exchanges with all the participants were rich in ideas and opened up prospects for future cooperation.”
