Building on the first actions implemented in 2025, the Energy Shakers programme is entering a new consolidation phase in 2026, with the ambition of going even further in supporting and engaging young people.

Following an initial phase focused on awareness-raising and experimentation, the programme now aims to establish more sustainable engagement pathways in close collaboration with local stakeholders in priority neighbourhoods across the Lyon metropolitan area.

Structured Engagement Pathways

The programme is now based on the creation of two youth cohorts deployed in the following neighbourhoods:

• Les Buers in Villeurbanne;
• La Duchère in Lyon 9.

These pathways will enable participants to:

• Discover careers in the energy transition sector;
• Take part in concrete actions within their neighbourhoods;
• Become involved in a collective and long-term community dynamic.

The ambition is to move beyond awareness-raising towards active and ongoing youth engagement, with the long-term goal of nurturing local ambassadors.

Concrete Actions Rooted in Local Communities

In each neighbourhood, operational projects are being implemented in partnership with local stakeholders.

Les Buers

A dedicated Energy Transition Week will provide young people with opportunities to participate in hands-on activities, including:

• Building a device to combat urban heat islands;
• Installing photovoltaic equipment;
• Visiting construction sites;
• Meeting professionals working in transition-related sectors.

La Duchère

A group of young people is co-designing an educational solar energy treasure hunt, which will be used during neighbourhood events and replicated in other territories.

These initiatives rely on strong partnerships involving social housing providers, community centres, associations and youth organisations, ensuring that the programme remains firmly embedded in local dynamics while effectively engaging young people.

Capturing and Sharing Knowledge

The programme also includes a capitalisation phase aimed at:

• Developing reusable educational toolkits;
• Sharing resources with partners and national networks;
• Supporting young volunteers in facilitating and delivering activities.

The objective is to enable these initiatives to be replicated in other territories and to strengthen their impact over the medium term.

Renewed Support from the Fondation setec

As part of this new phase, the Fondation setec is renewing its commitment alongside CoopaWatt by providing €5,000 in funding to support and consolidate the actions already underway.

The renewed programme got off to a flying start with the participation of its sponsor, Marie Cedou, Project Manager at setec organisation, in a field activity organised by CoopaWatt. It was a great opportunity to witness first-hand the initiatives developed with young people and to strengthen the connections between the Foundation, project leaders and programme participants.

Marie Cedou’s Testimonial :

“I had the opportunity to discover the actions carried out by this association in partnership with the City of Lyon. Last Tuesday, CoopaWatt worked with young people from the ETRE School to introduce them to renewable energies, particularly solar energy.

The ETRE School is a network providing short training programmes for young people to help them enter the workforce. The group consisted of five students aged between 19 and 23 who were following a three-month course in market gardening and basic woodworking.

The afternoon was divided into three parts. First, a workshop on solar energy introduced the students to key concepts such as fossil energy versus renewable energy, how solar panels are manufactured and how they work. They were highly engaged and eager to learn more.

We then visited the neighbourhood woodworking workshop to help create a support structure for an information panel. CoopaWatt will install this panel near a solar panel that was donated to an association in La Duchère, providing information for local residents.

The day concluded with a snack and an escape-game-style activity designed by CoopaWatt together with young volunteers from Unis-Cité. The game will be offered to local residents, families and children during a community event bringing together several associations on 17 July.

This shared experience allowed me to discover remarkable initiatives taking place in Lyon to support young people in social and professional reintegration while raising awareness of renewable energy. It was an extremely enriching experience.”
